Local Sea Food

While it might sound obvious for an island, some of the most delicious dishes in Canarian cuisine are linked to the sea. These include «gofio escaldado» (a dish made with roasted flour and broth), fried calamari, limpets, and fried octopus. If you want to learn more about traditional Canarian cuisine, I recommend visiting our section where we go into more detail.

La Rubia

Restaurante La Rubia, located in the beach of Melenara, Telde.

A legendary restaurant on Melenara Beach in Telde offers a wide variety of traditional dishes and fresh fish. Although it is very popular, it can be challenging to secure a table at times. In case it is full, there are several nearby options such as the Venecia restaurant.

Bar Pozo

Bar Pozo, located in the coastal village of Pozo Izquierdo, Agüimes.

Located in Pozo Izquierdo, the paradise for kitesurfing enthusiasts, Bar Pozo has been offering delicious seafood dishes for decades. It stands out for its fresh fish, fried octopus, or limpets, which are not commonly found on the menu of many restaurants.

Marisquería Ragù

Marisquería Ragù, located in the beach of Puerto de las Nieves, Agaete.

Even though it’s quite easy to find a good terrace to eat in the port of Las Nieves, I recently enjoyed my time at this restaurant that offers fresh seafood. In case it’s full, many restaurants in the area also provide quality fish, such as the Angor Restaurant.

Bar Playa El Boya

Bar Playa El Boya, located in the beach of El Pajar, Mogán.

This is undoubtedly one of the most iconic restaurants in Gran Canaria. It has been offering typical coastal dishes in the town of Arguineguín, in the south of Gran Canaria, for many years. I must admit that the service and food quality can vary depending on the day, but overall, I have always had a good experience.

Amigo Camilo

Restaurante Amigo Camilo, located on the avenue that connects Las Canteras with El Confital.

To enjoy good fish, there’s no need to venture far from the city. In Las Palmas, we have a multitude of excellent restaurants. However, I’d like to mention one in particular Amigo Camilo which offers a wide variety of fish and a magnificent terrace by the sea. For more restaurants in Las Palmas click here.

Authentic Canarian Food

Some of the restaurants that will be mentioned below offer authentic Canarian food, with many of them being unknown to tourists. However, don’t expect a beautifully decorated venue.

Bar Cafetería Aridañy

Bar Cafetería Aridañi, located next to Maspalomas in El Tablero, San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

The restaurant recently moved to El Tablero, in Maspalomas. It is a fantastic option if you want to steer away from the more touristic places where prices are usually inflated. Bar Aridañy is very affordable and offers a wide variety of homemade dishes and desserts, typical of the Canarian cuisine.

Bar Café Santa Margarita El Salobre

Bar Café Asociación de Vecinos Santa Margarita El Salobre

As you can see in the picture, it is a beautiful restaurant in the south of Gran Canaria, adorned with plants and wooden furniture. But the most remarkable aspect is the variety of traditional dishes featured on its menu, all at a very affordable price.

Restaurante El Albaricoque

Restaurante el Albaricoque, located in the village of Fataga, San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

If you’re driving from the south towards the interior of the island, there is no better place to eat than El Albaricoque restaurant, located in the charming village of Fataga in the heart of Gran Canaria.

El Encuentro de Teror

Restaurante El Encuentro, located in the village of Teror.

Located in one of the most beautiful villages in Gran Canaria, El Encuentro Restaurant is one of my favorites. In addition to offering numerous typical Canarian dishes, it has a wide variety of high-quality meats.

Bar Restaurante Saucillo

Bar Restaurante Saucillo, Altos de Galdar.

It’s not exactly a luxurious restaurant, but its food surprises visitors. It doesn’t have a wide variety of dishes, but most of them are traditional and very tasty. Additionally, it is really affordable.
